The Center for Black Women's Wellness, created in 1988 under the leadership of Byllye Avery is a non-profit organization that provides free and low-cost services to empower black women, and their families, toward physical, mental, and economic wellness. Their health program is called the Wellness Program.
Mission Statement: to broaden awareness of the many health issues affecting black women; encourage change in personal behaviors to prevent unnecessary illnesses; and provide preventive health care and early detection and treatment of conditions before health problems arise.
Services: Three services that act as a seamless system to address the needs of the community.
Wellness Clinic
Well woman visits: pap tests, pelvic exams, clinical breast exams
Family planning services: testing and planning
Physical exams and health screenings
STD screening/treatment
Employment drug tests
Fees based on sliding fee scale, Medicaid accepted
Community Prevention Program
Breast health education
Cervical Health education
Cardiovascular Disease education
Stroke prevention
Safety Net Clinic (No cost services for uninsured women and men, 18 and older)

Non Emergency Medicine
Chronic Disease Care
Mental Health referrals and services
