Founded in 1977, the Feminist Women’s Health Center (FWHC) strives to “empower women through service, education, and advocacy.” The Center’s two primary goals are providing exceptional reproductive health care services and empowering women through social justice-oriented advocacy and education. After the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973, a group of Atlanta women gathered in pursuit of better healthcare options for women and founded the FWHC. The founding mothers intent was to rectify the problematic norms of the existing healthcare system, and emphasized empowerment through self-help. Since the beginning, the FWHC has been committed to providing accessible, affordable, judgment-free abortion services. Although the FWHC of today has an expansive array of reproductive services, educational programs, and advocacy initiatives, safe abortion care for women remains a top priority for the center.
Mission Statement: To “provide accessible, compressive gynecological healthcare to all who need it without judgment. As innovative healthcare leaders, they work collaboratively within the community and nationally to promote reproductive health, rights, and justice. They advocate for wellness, uncensored health information and fair public policies by educating the larger community and empowering our clients to make their own decisions.” Additionally, the FWHC offers a “safe, supportive, and affordable place for your reproductive health care needs” and welcomes “all races, ethnicities, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, socio-economic status, and abilities.” Numerous translators and multilingual staff are routinely available to facilitate inclusion.
